1600 Communications Foundation Golf Tournament

June 21, 2024

The Old Hickory Golf Course in Woodbridge, Virginia was the site of the Foundation Golf Tournament again this year. This year the weather turned out bright and sunny after last year’s rain. The rain ponchos which were included in the gift bags this year may have influenced the weather. The downside of the “bright and sunny” was extreme heat – the hottest day of the year to that point of the summer. Despite the heat we had a great turnout again with a full field of 144 golfers. The mix of active duty WHCA, retirees, and contract support folks make this event special every year. After a welcome by the WHCA Chief of Staff, Rich Gonsalves, and Tournament Chairman, Steve Crowder, the players took to the course for a great day of golf and fellowship. As always, skill levels ranged from some really good players to novices, but at the end of the day it really did not matter—everyone had an incredible time. The drink carts, sponsored by Verium, provided welcome relief from the heat as did the Old Hickory staff who circulated around the course providing wet cooling cloths and additional water. We also would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped with organizing the event, contacting sponsors, checking in players, and acquiring prizes.

After play was completed, all the participants gathered for a delicious buffet meal, sponsored by General Dynamic Information Technology (GDIT); and stories of good shots, not so good ones, and quite a few golf balls that will never be seen again. Prizes were awarded for the lowest scoring groups and for prize holes.
